Finite Element Modeling (FEM) is the most employed Modeling approach in the industry for Modeling the vibration effects in civil structures .

The FEM approach involves the structure being broken down into a mesh of discrete elements and the continuous variables are approximated by the values at the vertices of these elements. The governing equations of vibratory motion in the structure, which are not solvable analytically, are thereby reduced to a set of large matrices, which can be solved through appropriate numerical methods.
